I live on a small island in Beaufort County, South Carolina. I am a transplant and have become rooted in the Lowcountry lifestyle. It is a culture that connects people to land and the surrounding waters. It has a history of great significance. The sensibilities about time, sense of place and design aesthetic are unique to this region.
After living and working in the Lowcountry for 20 years, I decided recently to make a change in my life. I left the 8-5 working world. It has taken me a bit of time to decide upon the next chapter. It has taken me time to be guided by my intrinsic interests. It has taken me time to get out of my own way! And now I know what’s next.
My most joyful times are spent working with fabrics, flowers, furniture and color to create comfortable and inviting indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy with my husband, family and friends. When I follow my heart I know my truest desire is to spend my time in the pursuit of becoming a “maker” of remarkable Lowcountry experiences, delicious foods, beautiful décor, glorious gardens and a fit, healthy life.
Through this blog I join the many who derive joy from engaging and sharing their creative endeavors. There is so much that makes the Lowcountry life a special experience. I hope I bring a fresh voice to the chorus of those who would enjoy a life lived with a Lowcountry twist.

Hi … I see that you left a comment on my blog ‘Through Jersey Eyes’ that you once lived in NJ and are now in SC. I’ve never been to SC but I hear it’s beautiful… and… did you know that SC has a state dog ? I think only 5 states do ! It’s the Boykin spaniel and we have one… 🙂 I love you blog and look forward to exploring more of it. Thank you for finding one of mine 🙂

I saw Lowcountry in your link on another blog, and SC came to mind. We’ve vacationed there a couple times roaming the coastal highway, and fell in love with it. I look forward to learning more about life there.

I just love when I find other blogs about living in retirement! I have in-laws that live in North Carolina (which is beautiful), but I don’t know much about South Carolina. I look forward to following your blog, sharing thoughts on retirement, and learning more about your part of the country.

I don’t feel that I am completely finished with being productively engaged – I just don’t know right now what the next chapter will be. Leilani, I feel very certain we are supposed to know each other and look forward to future adventures. I want to do a couple more sprint tri’s. I have work to do to get into race shape. My goal is for one next June in Naperville, IL.
